From our early beginnings, the people of Texas have greatly contributed to shaping who we have become as Americans. The Texas State Historical Association publishes several Handbooks that document this history. You can find additional resources documenting the history of Texas and its communities published at the Heritage Resource Center at Stephen F. Austin University​ ​The Texas Historical Commission also has many Texas Historical Markers located throughout Texas commemorating the people, places and events that are our history.  Explore their historical significance below.
